Lumberyard Salesperson

Sales lumber, plywood and building materials to contractors, commercial accounts and homeowners.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Greets customers and determines desired merchandise type, quantity, and quality.
  • Suggests materials that meet customers’ needs, emphasizing selling points of the article such as quality and utility.
  • Salesperson carries materials to customer car and helps customer loads merchandise.
  • Prepares sales slips.
  • Stocks lumber, plywood, building material, and other merchandise.
  • Takes inventory of stock.
  • Operates power equipment, such as table saws, radial arm saws, etc.
  • Cleans work area.

Hardware Salesperson

Sells home and builder’s hardware to contractors, commercial accounts and homeowners.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Greets customer on sale floor and determines type and quality of merchandise desired.
  • Displays merchandise, suggests selections that meet customer’s needs, and emphasizes selling points of article such as quality and utility.
  • Prepares sales slip or takes customer to cash register.
  • Writes invoice or obtains credit authorization.
  • Places new merchandise on display.
  • Carries purchased merchandise to customer vehicle.
  • Takes inventory of stock.
  • Requisitions merchandise from stockroom.
  • Stocks merchandise, and performs housekeeping of assigned area

Cashiers

Receives cash, check, or credit card from customers or employees in payment for goods and services.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Computes or recomputes bill, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due.
  • Makes change, cashes checks, and issues receipts or tickets to customers.
  • Records amounts received and prepares reports of transactions.
  • Reads and records totals shown on cash register tape and verifies against cash on hand.
  • Quotes price and describes features of items for which money is received.
  • Gives cash refunds or issues credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise.
  • Operates cash register by punching sku into keypad or by scanning coded items to record price, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase on monitor screen.
  • Stocks merchandise, and performs housekeeping of assigned area

Nursery Salesperson

Nursery experience / plant knowledge preferred, willing to train someone with a sincere desire to learn and love of gardening.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Assisting customers with gardening questions and making recommendations
  • Nursery maintenance including watering, pruning and displaying plant material
  • Stocking and inventory of nursery hard goods and landscape materials

Requirements:

  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated; able to follow directions and work without supervision.
  • Ability to load plants and bagged goods into customer vehicles and around the nursery
