Arugula

Plant now → Harvest in late winter or early spring

  • Plant in full sun or partial shade.
  • Keep soil evenly moist.
  • Plant 1/4 inch deep and 1 inch apart.
  • Harvest leaves when they are 2 – 3 inches long.

Bok Choy

Plant now → Harvest in early winter

  • Mix fertilizer into the soil before planting.
  • Plant in full sun or partial shade.
  • It only takes 4-6 weeks to grow. Needs 3-5 hours of sun per day.

Cabbage

Plant now → Harvest in late winter or early spring

  • Sow in sandy soil with full sun exposure.
  • Don’t plant with broccoli and cauliflower, as they require similar nutrients and deplete the soil too quickly.
  • Depending on what size head you want, plant 12 to 24 inches apart.
  • Till in aged manure or compost to prepare soil.

Turnip

Plant now → Harvest in winter

  • Plant in full sun or partial shade.
  • Harvest when bulbs are around 2-3 inches in diameter.
  • Plant in sandy soil.
  • They only take 30 – 60 days to grow.

Calendula

Plant now → Bloom in spring

  • Attracts bees and other pollinators, making this a great flower for vegetable gardens.
  • Plant in full sun.
  • Keep soil pH range between 5.5 – 7.0.
  • Sow seeds 6 – 12 inches apart.

Lupine

Plant now → Bloom in spring

  • Plant in full sun.
  • Soak seeds overnight in lukewarm water or chill in the fridge for a week before planting.
  • Fertilize with a plant food high in phosphorus.
  • Can plant as annuals or perennials.
